Beyond assisting your graduate students with networking opportunities, conference presentations and preparing their research for publication, supervisors can play an important role in helping to shape the future of their graduate students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/gradstudies\/gpps\/\">Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Skills<\/a> (GPPS) program at YorkU offers tools students need to succeed within and beyond the academic world, informed by reflection and intentional planning through the Faculty\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/gradstudies\/idp\/\">Individualized Development Plan (IDP)<\/a>. The GPPS program is divided into six broad areas to connect students to opportunities and resources that will help them develop professional plans and goals, and to strategically meet those goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Career Exploration and Planning&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health and Wellness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Managing Time and Resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research Dissemination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teaching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In helping your students prepare for their future, supervisors should encourage graduate students to attend the events and programs offered by the <a href=\"https:\/\/futurestudents.yorku.ca\/events\/graduate\">Faculty of Graduate Studies<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/careers.yorku.ca\/annual-events\">Career Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond the Professoriate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn about <a href=\"https:\/\/careers.yorku.ca\/resource-library\/additional-resources\/resources-graduate-students\">Beyond the Professoriate<\/a>, an eLearning Platform with on-demand, self-paced learning modules that allow Master's, PhDs, and Postdocs to explore career options and discover ways to apply the skills acquired through their education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students often look to their programs and supervisors for information about career support before seeking out other on-campus resources. As such, faculty play a critical role as the first line of support for their graduate students seeking career advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is new content created to support faculty and supervisors by familiarizing them with ready-made resources that they can confidently direct their students to throughout their career exploration and job search process.
