What should I do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">First, it's useful to be aware of the distinction between Academic Accommodations and Workplace Accommodations. You may require one or both, and they have different administrative pathways. The latter is relevant only to students who hold, or expect to hold, CUPE 3903 work assignments as part of their funding package. <\/font><\/font><br><br><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">For both sorts of accommodation, you may want to initiate a conversation with your Graduate Program Director (GPD), who can be a conduit to the relevant offices, and a source of support for tailored planning of your academic and work pathway through your degree. Accommodations must be flexible to adapt to student needs and Capacities while Maintaining the integrity of the academic program and race curriculum. To arrange academic accommodations, the first step is to register with <a href=\"https:\/\/accessibility.students.yorku.ca\/\">Student Accessibility Services<\/a> including the submission of documentation from a health care professional confirming the nature of the disability and related functional limitations. Each student will be assigned to an Accessibility Counselor. With the informed consent of the student, the Accessibility Counselor will work with the student, Course Director, GPD and Faculty Supervisor as necessary to facilitate the implementation of academic accommodations to allow an equitable opportunity for student success in their academic program.<\/font><\/font><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Workplace Accommodations<\/font><\/font><\/strong><br><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> As part of their funding package, many students have employment in CUPE 3903 bargaining units. Ordinarily, this will come in the form of a TA or GA assignment arranged in conjunction with their program and the hiring units in which they work. Students with disabilities may need modifications to TA or GA assignments.<\/font><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin exploring a work accommodation, you should be in contact with two offices at York:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">CUPE 3903 ( <a href=\"mailto:cupe3903equity@gmail.com\">cupe3903equity@gmail.com<\/a> ); You have a right to have a union representative present for all conversations surrounding a work accommodation.<\/font><\/font><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">EWB ( <\/font><\/font><a href=\"mailto:ewb@yorku.ca\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">ewb@yorku.ca<\/font><\/font><\/a><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> ); Employee Well-being in Human Resources will arrange an intake appointment and co-ordinate a Work Accommodation Plan which will involve your Graduate Program, Faculty Relations and the Hiring Unit in which you would work (Resource Faculty in which your Graduate Program sits). Employee Well-being will require the employee to provide documentation from a health care professional confirming the nature of the disability and related functional limitations.<\/font><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Timing<\/font><\/font><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> . For both types of accommodations, the more lead time the better. Incoming students are advised to contact the relevant offices well before they will begin their studies, and to be in regular contact.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Trouble-shooting<\/font><\/font><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> . Should you encounter obstacles at any point in the procedures above, the Associate Dean, Student Affairs in the Faculty of Graduate Studies ( <\/font><\/font><a href=\"mailto:fgsadst@yorku.ca\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">fgsadst@yorku.ca<\/font><\/font><\/a><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> ) can help coordinate and follow up. Que devrais-je faire?<\/font><\/font><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Tout d\u2019abord, il est utile de faire une distinction entre les mesures d\u2019adaptation acad\u00e9miques et les mesures d\u2019adaptation en milieu de travail. Vous pourriez avoir besoin des unes ou des autres ou des deux \u00e0 la fois. Les processus administratifs sont diff\u00e9rents dans chaque cas. En ce qui concerne les mesures d\u2019adaptation en milieu de travail, elles s\u2019appliquent uniquement aux \u00e9tudiants qui occupent actuellement ou pr\u00e9voient occuper des postes SCFP 3903 dans le cadre du financement de leurs \u00e9tudes.<\/font><\/font><br><br><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Vous souhaiterez peut-\u00eatre discuter des deux types de mesures d\u2019adaptation avec votre directeur ou directrice du programme d\u2019\u00e9tudes sup\u00e9rieures (DPES). Il ou elle vous orientera vers les bureaux appropri\u00e9s. Tout au long de vos \u00e9tudes, votre DPES sera une source de soutien pour planifier un parcours acad\u00e9mique et professionnel adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 vos besoins. Les mesures d\u2019adaptation doivent \u00eatre flexibles et adapt\u00e9es aux besoins et aux capacit\u00e9s des \u00e9tudiants tout en pr\u00e9servant l\u2019int\u00e9grit\u00e9 acad\u00e9mique du dipl\u00f4me et du programme de cours. La premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape consiste \u00e0 s\u2019inscrire aux <a href=\"https:\/\/accessibility.students.yorku.ca\/\">Services d\u2019accessibilit\u00e9 de York<\/a>. Vous devrez soumettre des documents d\u2019un professionnel de la sant\u00e9 pour confirmer la nature de votre handicap et vos limitations fonctionnelles. Ce sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement des postes d\u2019auxiliaires d\u2019enseignement ou d\u2019auxiliaires de corrections dans leur programme et dans les unit\u00e9s de recrutement pour lesquelles ils travaillent. EWB exigera que l\u2019employ\u00e9 fournisse les documents n\u00e9cessaires provenant d\u2019un professionnel de la sant\u00e9 confirmant la nature du handicap et ses limitations fonctionnelles.<\/font><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><strong>\u00c9tapes<\/strong>.<\/font><\/font><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> Pour les deux types de mesures d\u2019adaptation, il vaut toujours mieux disposer d\u2019un maximum de temps de pr\u00e9paration.
