Afia is a story about a misunderstood 10-year-old girl who is kicked out of private school. Sent to public school, she must go head-to-head with resident bully who torments kids on a whole other level.

Lead: Afia Thompson
Gender: FEMALE
Age: 8-11 years
Black/African-Canadian. A likable, self-confident,
outcast with a questionable attitude and student
record. She's cute, intelligent, and bossy. She's a
loud mouth that can be a little stubborn at times, but
all and all she's a good kid. She's a talented drawer;
she loves her vintage Doc Martins, Bonhomme, and
Michael Jackson. She loves music, dancing around,
laughing, and not cleaning her room. By no means is
she spoiled, her parents are very strict, but being an
only child definitely has it perks. She wants to be
accepted for who she is, she's trying her best to be a
"good girl" but resident bully keeps ticking her off.
Some might call her a bully, others might call her a
nerd, her teachers say she's just "plain rotten", but
to her she just Afia. This role requires a strong
young actor who can play in this age range. Can be
older but needs to physically look 8 -10 years.
Should be athletic. Shoots all 5 days
Principal: Tony Bailey (Big Tony)
Gender: Male
Age: 10-12 years
Caucasian. He's big; he's bad, mean, and very slick.
He's one of the smartest pre-teen bullies in the
public school system. Quietly, he gets what he wants
and fights for his territory. He's threatened by the
"new girl" Afia and doesn't like how she is
interfering with his so-called "business". He spends
his time figuring out how to manipulate smaller
children with impressionable minds and listening to
rap music. Tony and Afia don't have much in common and
they don't see eye-to-eye but they both want the same
thing, power and respect.
Principal: George McFarland
Gender: Male
Age: 7-10 years
Caucasian. George is a small, worldly, likable but
talkative boy with huge bifocal glasses. He doesn't
want to get involved with any sort of trouble even
after Afia saves him from Tony. He would rather sit
somewhere and cry, or play with his best friend
Tobias. Deep down he wants to do something but he
feels that he can't because he is physically smaller
and weaker then most kids his age. He skeptically
looks to Afia for guidance. Can be older but must
appear to be 7 or 8 years old.
Principal: Mr. Miller
Gender: Male
Age: 50-65 years
Caucasian. Mr. Miller is Afia's public school guidance
councilor and anger management coach. He's a suit
wearing grey-haired and/or bald man with glasses and a
peculiar deep voice. He's a friendly man of thought
who believes that Afia can be a better student, even
though she slightly disgusts him.
Principal: Mr. Bud
Gender: Male
Age: 40-50 years
Mr. Bud is Afia's spandex wearing volleyball coach
whose goal is to whip Afia into shape. All he cares
about is fitness and healthy food. When kids get on
his nerves he physically or verbally attacks them.
That's his way of breaking them down. He's fit,
over-energetic, loud, and slightly gross. Open to all
races and ethnicities.
Principal: Mr. Thompson
Gender: Male
Age: 40-50 years
Mr. Thompson is Afia's father. He is stern, strict but
very contradictory at times. Most of the time he
leaves Afia very confused. Off-screen/voice-over part
must have a dynamic range of vocal ability.
Actor: Ms. Thompson
Gender: Female
Age: 40-50 years
Ms. Thomson is Afia's mother. She is hysterical and
over-emotional. She cries more so then often and has
occasional mood swings. Off-screen/voice-over must
have a dynamic range of vocal ability.
Actor: Ms. Small
Gender: Female
Age: 60-65 years
Caucasian. Ms. Small is Afia's public school teacher.
She is the teacher that introduces Afia to the rest of
her new classmates. She is also the teacher that
continually catches Afia in "the act" and eventually
sends her to anger management.
Actor: Simon Berry
Gender: Male
Age: 7-11 years
Simon is one of Afia's private school victims. Must be
able to speak and read French to a degree.
Actor: Madame Biatche'
Gender: Female
Age: 35-50 years
Madame Biatche' is Afia's stern French teacher who
does the dirty deed of kicking Afia out of the school.
Role is off-screen, only voice-over. Must be able to
speak French fluently and have a dynamic range of
vocal ability.
Actor: Emily Hornstone
Gender: Female
Age: 7-11 years
Emily is one of Afia's private school victims.
Requires strong acting ability. Must be able to mimic
being physically hit. No dialog
