Experiential Learning Student Fund

Experiential education (EE) provides students with opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge to concrete experiences in ways that support them in realizing or advancing their course or program learning outcomes.

The Experiential Learning Student Fund aims to provide successful applicants with supplemental support for their engagement in an experiential learning activity that is outside of their program requirements, which can be curricular, co-curricular, or extra-curricular. Each application will be reviewed individually, and the amount awarded will vary depending on the cost of activity and availability of funds. The fund is intended to help to alleviate the cost rather than cover the full cost of an activity. EE-acquired expenses such as those listed below can be reimbursed up to $300 per student per fiscal year (May 1st to April 30th), with valid receipts, until funds are depleted. Students with financial needs are encouraged to apply. This fund is limited and available until depleted. Funding is currently available.

Eligibility Criteria

The fund is open to full-time and part-time undergraduate students currently enrolled in a program in the Faculty of Health (proof of enrolment is required).  Experiential learning activities may be related to a course or can occur outside of program requirements through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that are relevant to the program of study.

Eligible Activities

  • Presenting work produced during an experiential learning activity at a conference, workshop, etc.
  • Attending professional development, training or other related events that complement the EE experience (e.g., conferences, workshops, etc.)
  • Other aligned activities: It is recommended that you consult with the fund delegates (hhelsf@yorku.ca) to ensure that the proposed activity is eligible for funding prior to initiating the application process.

Eligible Expenses

  • Transportation costs (beyond GTA)
  • Poster printing costs
  • Other aligned expenses: please consult the fund delegate (hhelsf@yorku.ca) prior to initiating the application process.

  • Expenses without receipts
  • Expenses for activities that have not taken place yet
  • Expenses submitted late, after the deadline for submission (see below)

Application Process and Forms

Step 1: Student Application

Students must complete the Experiential Learning Student Application form (note: receipt(s) required).

Step 2: Supervisor/Advisor Form

A supervisor/advisor (experiential learning supervisors, undergraduate program directors, OSAS Director/Manager in Student Services, or course directors for course-related activities) who can attest to the student's engagement in the experiential activity must complete the Supervisor/Advisor Recommendation Form, which they send directly to the fund delegate by email: Yasaman Delaviz (hhelsf@yorku.ca). Please include “Supervisor Recommendation Form” in the email subject.

Step 3: Confirmation Email

Once your application has been granted successful, you will receive a congratulations email from the fund delegate. Funds for successful applications will be released directly into student accounts within several weeks of the application deadlines for submission.
