Global Health students are recognized for academic excellence, leadership and research through a range of scholarships and awards.

Many have also been shortlisted for and received prestigious external scholarships and awards, including the Rhodes Scholarship, McCall MacBain Scholarship, and the CIHR Undergraduate Student Research Award.

These achievements reflect the strengths of our students and the program’s role in supporting the development of the knowledge and skills needed to become emerging scholars and leaders.

Academic Excellence and Leadership

Harvey Skinner Excellence in Global Health Prize

Recognizes a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the Specialized Honours or Honours Global Health program who achieved the highest grade in their first year. The prize is named after Dr. Harvey Skinner, inaugural dean of the Faculty of Health, who oversaw the creation of the Global Health program. No application required.

Paul McDonald Excellence in Global Health Prize

Recognizes a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the Specialized Honours or Honours Global Health program who achieved the highest grade in their second year. The prize is named after Dr. Paul McDonald, former dean of the Faculty of Health, who oversaw the creation of the School of Global Health. No application required.

Lesley Beagrie Excellence in Global Health Prize

Recognizes a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the Specialized Honours or Honours Global Health program who achieved the highest grade in their third year. The prize is named after Dr. Lesley Beagrie, former director of the School of Nursing and associate dean of professional and global programs, who initiated the Global Health program. No application required.

Beryl Pilkington Excellence in Global Health Prize

Recognizes a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the Specialized Honours or Honours Global Health program who achieved the highest grade in their fourth year. The prize is named after Dr. Beryl Pilkington, a professor and the first program coordinator of the Global Health program. No application required.

Firdosi Mehta Service in Global Health Prize

Recognizes an undergraduate student enrolled in the Specialized Honours or Honours Global Health program in any year who has demonstrated meaningful service within York University and/or the broader community related to global health. The prize is named after Dr. Firdosi Mehta, who held senior roles with the World Health Organization and contributed to the Global Health program through guest lectures and student mentorship. Application required.

A.M. Viens Leadership in Global Health Prize

Recognizes an undergraduate student enrolled in the Specialized Honours or Honours Global Health program in any year who has demonstrated leadership within the School of Global Health and/or the Faculty of Health through advocacy and support for global health initiatives and students. The prize is named after Dr. A.M. Viens, inaugural director of the School of Global Health. Application required.
