Professor Rebecca Bassett-Gunter and Associate Professors Jessica Fraser-Thomas and Larkin Lamarche held two mini-conferences for the KINE 4680 course funded by a FIT grant application. One mini-conference facilitated intergenerational learning/mentoring with graduate students from KAHS 6645 serving as mentors for undergraduate students from KINE 4680. The students designed and developed their own research (mock) projects as part of the 4680 learning outcomes.
An earlier KINE 4680 mini-conference on November 26th facilitated academic research and community engagement as undergraduate students shared (mock) research projects with peers, graduate student mentors, faculty and community partners. Guests from the YMCA, Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment Launchpad, Active Abilities Canada and York Recreation and Active Living joined our mini-conference to engage with and provide feedback to students.
These experiential education initiatives fostered student engagement and success, while fostering a sense of community and pride for both undergraduate and graduate students, and also provided an opportunity for students to network with community partners.
Dr. Bassett-Gunter extended a special thank you to Dr. Larkin, as well as Dr. Fraser-Thomas and doctoral student Katie Disimino for their leadership during the mini-conference.
