    Galapagos Semester Program (GAIAS): Located on San Cristóbal Island, the USFQ Galapagos campus offers international students the opportunity to study in one of the most pristine natural laboratories in the world.
    Cumbaya Program: Students who wish to experience life in Quito, study at USFQ's main campus, and take courses with local students, should apply to the Cumbayá program.

  • Cumbaya Program: Students participating in the Cumbayá Program are able to choose their courses from across USFQ's ten colleges. USFQ offers hundreds of courses each semester in Spanish and in English. Spanish language classes at all levels are also offered to international students.
  • Galapagos Semester Program (GAIAS): The Galapagos semester program offers four academic courses in biological and social sciences, all taught in English. Students can choose one of the following concentrations:
    1. Evolution, Ecology and Conservation.
    2. Marine ecology.
    3. People, Politics and Environment.
    4. Sustainable tourism.

*Courses are subject to change.

Students in all concentrations must take a Spanish conversation class at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced level at the beginning of the program (1 credit). Volunteer (non-credit) options in San Cristobal are also available for interested students.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Galapagos Semester Program (GAIAS):
    • At least starting the second year of university studies.
      minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or 7.0/ 9.0
    • Proficiency in English (a student who has English as a second language MUST provide documentation of English proficiency).
    • At least one general biology course or ecology course at the college level
    • Marine concentration students will need to obtain open water certification and DAN dive insurance for USFQ-sponsored academic dives. Students without open water certification or dive insurance will only be allowed to dive during excursions.
    • Students must have the yellow fever vaccine regardless of the concentration they choose.
  • Cumbaya Program:
    • At least starting the second year of university studies.
    • Minimum GPA of 2.5/ 4.0 or 6.0/ 9.0 (or minimum average required by the student's institution of origin).
    • USFQ recommends a minimum of four (4) semesters of university-level Spanish for classes at the Cumbayá Campus.

The Amsterdam housing market is extremely challenging. UvA International Student Housing has a limited number of rooms reserved for roughly half of the newly incoming international students every semester. Please note that accommodation therefore cannot be guaranteed. After acceptance, in May (for semester 1) and in November (for semester 2) the student will receive an email about the application procedure for student housing (lottery).
