Parietal Reach Area

Using fMRI, we showed that human MIP, as in the monkey, updates remembered reach targets in an eye-centered frame during eye movements. We also showed how human parietal cortex differentially encodes movements of the eyes, left arm, or right arm. Finally, we have tested humans with parietal damage to show how this interferes with the eye-centered updating of reach targets. Currently we are using visuomotor adaptation paradigms in normal and brain damaged subjects to understand the role of parietal cortex in visuomotor transformations.
