RESEARCH PROJECT:

Our research work focus on understanding how neurons in midbrain such as superior colliculus (SC), interstitial nucleus of Cajal (INC), rostral interstitial medial longitudinal fasciculus (riMLF) and cortical areas such as Supplementary Eye Field (SEF), Frontal Eye Field (FEF) and Lateral Intraparietal area (LIP) involve in control of the eye and head coordinate in 3-dimensionl gaze shift and how damage to these structure causes disturbances in eye or head posture and induces neurological disorders like torticollis and Parkinson’s disease. We are also studying frames of reference transformations for 3-D eye-head gaze control associated with SC, FEF, SEF and LIP and how they are influenced by cognition, in primate. The techniques we are using for studies include single unit / multiple units (array) recording, microstimulation and chemical inactivation of the brain areas while recording of 3-D eye and head movements.
