A “Degree Requirement Waived or Altered” petition is a request made under exceptional and extenuating circumstances.

When the Committee considers a Degree Requirement Waived or Altered petition, one of two decisions will result:
- Granted, your degree requirement will be waived or altered.
- Refused.

General Responsibility
It is your responsibility to seek an academic advisor and discuss whether this petition is feasible for your situation.
Approach your Academic advisor, the Department and the Undergraduate Director to find a suitable substitute for the course.

Statement of Grounds
This is your personal letter and you must provide a detailed, specific account on your extenuating circumstances and why your degree requirements should be altered and waived.
For the Waiver General Education Requirements petitions, please submit the course outlines for the approved GenEds that you want to waive and the courses that you took that are maybe equivalent to the approved GenEds. You must be able to explain the similarity between the two courses. Or you must prove that you have acquired the critical analytical skills and thought and its communication in writing and speech in other courses.
