Advising with QLess
In-Person Advising
Check in at the Department of Economics front desk located at Vari Hall, Room 1110. Drop-in advising is first-come, first-served.

Hours of operation:
Monday 1 - 4 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 - 3:45 p.m.
Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2:00 - 3:45 p.m.
Virtual Advising
Virtual drop-in advising via QLESS is available for ECON majors seeking academic advice. Advising is provided on a first come, first served basis. Each drop-in session is about 15 minutes.
Hours of operation:
Monday to Wednesday 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 - 3:45 p.m.
Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2:00 - 3:45 p.m.
How to use QLESS:
- Join our Economics Academic Advising QLESS Kiosk OR download the QLESS app on your smartphone from Google Play or the iTunes App Store. (Open the app and select "Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies")
- Join the Economics - Virtual Academic Advising line.
- When it is your turn, you'll receive a text, and an advisor will call you on your telephone or send you an email with the Zoom link, depending on which option you selected.
The Virtual queue will close for the day once it reaches capacity.
Note: The last advising drop-in session for the day will begin a half hour before the indicated end time.
Front Desk Services
Please contact our Front Desk Services at lapsecon@yorku.ca for inquiries relating to: course enrolment, permission to enroll in courses, course performance summary forms, course overload, grades, deferred exams.
- For Department Policies please refer to Department of Economics Policies page.
- When contacting the Department of Economics, in person or via email, always provide your full name and York student number.
- For enrolment inquiries (including enrolment permissions) include complete course details – course code and section (no catalogue numbers), example: AP/ECON 2300 Section Q.
Please do not send multiple emails as it may cause a delay in receiving a response from the department.
Meet your Advisors
Please note that academic advisors are not able to assist with enrolling students into courses that are full or reserved. For course permission requests, please follow up directly with the department offering the course.

Meet with an Academic Advisor if:
- You are a transfer students. Transfer students should bring their statement of transfer credits to the appointment.
- You need special forms signed, such as Letters of Permission, Exchange Programs, etc.
- You are a current student with academic advising questions.
Prepare for meeting with an advisor:
- Prepare your questions in advance.
- Print out and bring with you a copy of your Unofficial Transcript, Degree Progress Report and completed degree checklist.
Notes: Degree requirements vary depending on the date you entered the Program.
