French Culture through the Spoken Word (CEFR B1)

This course, at the CEFR B1 level, is intended for students with grade 12 French or equivalent and is mandatory for students majoring or minoring in French. It enhances students' oral comprehension and production skills to the level necessary for successfully engaging in French university courses and discussions relating to Francophone culture.
This course prepares students to understand the oral production of Francophone speakers in a variety of registers; to improve pronunciation and intonation; to be able to follow lectures and authentic Francophone media with a level of detail appropriate to academic analysis and discussion; to begin to be able to express ideas about this content in a register appropriate to academic discourse. It also contains important experiential components such as reflecting on and discussing cultural outings in French (theatre, cinema, lecture, etc.), and making presentations both individually and in a group discussion setting.
Prerequisites: AP/FR 1004 3.0 (with a minimum grade of C), or AP/FR 0130 6.0 (with a minimum grade of C), or AP/FR 1030 6.0 (with a minimum grade of C), or GL/FRAN 1830 3.0 (with a minimum grade of C), GL/FRAN 1330 3.0 (with a minimum grade of C)
Course credit exclusions: AP/FR 1080 6.0, GL/FRAN 1835 3.0, GL/FRAN 2805 6.00.
