Written French (CEFR B2)

This French-language course focuses on the development of written expression and reading skills. The unifying thematic framework for the various reading and writing assignments is that of the Francophone world.

Building upon the competencies gained in APFR1080, this course helps students to further improve their reading comprehension and writing. This is done through additional study of language and grammar, but also and more importantly through concrete practice with the aspects of written communication most essential to academic writing: synthesizing and rephrasing ideas read in other texts; adopting an impersonal tone; using coordination, subordination, simple or complex sentences to optimize clarity and expressivity; to clearly express causal relationships in a variety of ways. This writing practice is conducted against the backdrop of a cultural discovery of the global Francophonie, using relevant themes as points of discussion upon which to base written compositions that apply the elements of language listed above.
