French Literature, Culture & Society: Growth of New Ideas
This course focuses on exploring the fundamental elements of French literature, culture, and society prior to the French Revolution. Students gain insight into the emergence of authorship, both male and female, the development of literary criticism, the context of literary creation, and the new concepts of the individual and society that laid the foundation for modernity. In this course, students delve into the major literary movements of the period and closely analyze its seminal works. Through a comprehensive examination of society's various components and evolution in the three centuries leading up to the French Revolution, students gain a deeper understanding of the emergence of a new society. The course also provides opportunities for students to utilize the critical skills acquired in previous courses to advance their interpretation and comprehension of literary texts.
Prerequisites: AP/FR 2200 6.00 (with a minimum grade of C).
