Linguistic and Socio-Cultural Approach to Canadian French
Through the empirical analysis of speech samples from different regions and registers, this course provides a linguistic description of Laurentian French, the variety of French spoken in Quebec and Ontario, from linguistic, historical and sociocultural perspectives. Particular attention is given to phonetic, morpho-syntactic and lexical variants, and to the question of norms and variants.
Prerequisites: AP/FR 2100 6.00 (with a minimum grade of C).
Course credit exclusions: AP/FR 4150 6.00.
