What happens if York University doesn’t comply?

Ontario can impose: 

For public institutions: 

  • Orders to fix non-compliance
  • Possible monetary penalties (up to tens or hundreds of thousands per infraction depending on severity and history) 
  • Public posting of non-compliance orders 

Additionally: 

  • Individuals can file human rights complaints 
  • Students and staff can request accessible formats on demand 
  • Legal risk increases if barriers prevent equal access to education
