Advising with QLess

In-Person Advising


In-Person drop-in advising sessions are available by using QLESS (or check in at the front desk).

Location: 103 Central Square

Hours of operation:

Monday and Tuesday 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 - 3:45 p.m.
Thursday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2:00 - 3:45 p.m.

Virtual Advising


Virtual drop-in advising sessions are available by using QLESS.

You will receive a text message with your Zoom link when your advisor is ready to meet with you.

How to use QLESS:


  1. Join our Humanities, CCY, Gender, Sexuality & Women's Studies, Anthropology, Undeclared Major Academic Advising QLESS Kiosk OR download the QLESS app on your smartphone from Google Play or the iTunes App Store. (Open the app and select "Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies")
  2. Select the Humanities, CCY, Gender, Sexuality & Women's Studies, Anthropology, Undeclared Major virtual or in-person queue.
  3. Click Join Now. 
  4. Fill out your name and phone number.
  5. Add any notes for your advisor, including topics you’d like to discuss.
  6. Fill in a short form regarding your student information.
  7. You’ll receive a text message with the Zoom link or office location when your advisor is ready to meet with you!

The Virtual queue will close for the day once it reaches capacity.

Note: Each drop-in session is about 15-30 minutes. The last advising drop-in session for the day will begin a half hour before the indicated end time.

Booked Appointments


Starting January 29, booked appointments are available for Wednesdays and Fridays. To schedule an appointment, please submit your request through our LA&PS Academic Advising Contact Form. Once your appointment is scheduled, you will receive an email notification of your appointment details. Please email laps@yorku.ca as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.

  • You are a transfer students. Transfer students should bring their statement of transfer credits to the appointment.
  • You need special forms signed, such as Letters of Permission, Exchange Programs, etc.
  • You are a current student with academic advising questions.

Program-Specific Support

Anthropology Majors


Students requiring program-specific support should send a request for an appointment to lapsanth@yorku.ca. A staff member will respond to arrange an appointment time.

A full course load is defined as 30 credits during the Fall/Winter session. Students may take a maximum of 36 credits overall (and 18 credits per term) without petitioning. A full course load is defined as 15 credits in the Summer session. Students may take a maximum of 18 credits overall without petitioning.

For students admitted to the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies as of Fall 2014, 21 General Education credits are required from Humanities, Natural Science and Social Science. All General Education courses are offered at the 1000 level.

  • 6.00 credits from Natural Science (NATS);
  • 9.00 credits from Social Science (SOSC) or Humanities (HUMA);
  • and 6.00 credits in the opposing category to the 9.00 credits course in Social Science or Humanities already taken.

Credits Outside the Major, must be courses outside of the major subject so Anthropology courses CANNOT be counted towards this requirement.

Free Choice Credits can be any York University course so Anthropology courses CAN be counted towards this requirement.
