Children and the Law in Historical Perspective

This course explores the history of children and childhood in the Anglo-American legal tradition. By reading and studying historical, literary, and cultural materials, students will learn how children experienced the operation of the law in everyday life, how children gradually came to be seen as people with distinct rights, and how childhood itself came under the protection of the law.
