
Neil Buckley, Berta Esteve-Volart and Tsvetanka Karagyozova from the Department of Economics, are using a new environmental initiative as the basis for their research in behavioural economics by looking at how student engagement can drive more effective recycling habits.
The Re-Cup initiative ran for two weeks in November 2024, with disposable cup-sorting stations in locations across York’s Keele Campus. Those who used the sorting stations could also scan into an app to be eligible for prizes. The project engaged hundreds of participants to think critically about waste management on campus while diverting approximately 500 cups from the landfill.
