Dennis Pilon, Chair and professor in the Department of Politics in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS), will be giving a lecture as part of the 2025 Joanne Goodman Lecture Series hosted by Western University’s Department of History. Held every autumn, the series invites distinguished historians to deliver public lectures to faculty, students and members of the public. This year’s theme is the state of democracy in the United States, Canada and Europe, with a particular focus on the strengths of democratic systems.
Pilon earned his Bachelor’s degree in sociology and history and his Master’s degree in history from Simon Fraser University, before completing his PhD in politics from York University. His research examines contemporary and historical issues of democratization and democratic reform in western countries. His other research interests include labour, elections, class analysis and Canadian/comparative politics.
The event takes place from Sept. 23-25 in the Great Hall, Somerville House, Room 3326, Western University.
