
Jonathan Edmondson, Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of History, was featured in a video on CBC talking about a secret passageway in the Colosseum that recently opened to the public. Edmondson explains that the Commodus Passageway was discovered by archaeologists several years ago and leads into the “imperial box” where the emperor would watch gladiators.
Edmondson received his PhD in classics (ancient history) from Cambridge University: Christ’s College. His research interests include history, classics, society, economy and culture of Roman Spain (especially Lusitania) from the late Iron Age to the late Roman Empire, Roman public spectacle (especially gladiators), Roman epigraphy, Roman history and classical studies.
