
Harris Ali, professor in the Department of Sociology, contributed to an important York study looking at how the Covid-19 pandemic was more serious for community members living on the outskirts of city centers. Communities in more remote areas were hit harder by the pandemic due to a variety of reasons. Those living on the periphery of cities experience issues like poor housing, overcrowding, limited health care access and other challenges discussed in the study. Published in the journal City, the study aimed to identify ways cities could better support those more at risk in the future.
