Headshot of Sylvia Bawa

The Department of Sociology invites the York community to attend the first event in its new series, Sociology Lecture Series: Celebrating the Book. The inaugural lecture will take place on Wednesday, March 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in South Ross, Room 802. Associate Professor Sylvia Bawa will deliver a lecture titled In Desolate Places, We Find Hope, drawing from her co-edited book Truth Commissions and State Building. The book looks at how music, art and global icons inspired a young girl in Ghana to join the anti-apartheid struggle.
