Headshot of Zachary Spicer

Zachary Spicer, associate professor in the School of Public Policy & Administration, was featured in a CP24 article about Ontario's upcoming municipal elections following the close of candidate nominations.

Zachary Spicer says voter turnout in municipal elections can increase with a competitive mayoral election, and that the reverse is also true, with no challengers having fewer people show up to vote. He reflected on some of the nominations, saying he would keep an eye on Mississauga which has had more competition after years of support for Hazel MacCallion. Spicer holds a PhD in political science from the University of Western Ontario. His research interests include politics and government, public administration, local government, smart cities, data governance and innovation policy.
