2nd Place Finalist - Civic Spark

Marcia Garnes, Urban Studies student,  and three other York students entered themselves in the CivicSpark Undergraduate Public Policy Competition where they took second place.

CivicSpark is a University of Toronto organization that is "dedicated to empowering a new generation of city builders. By providing a non-partisan platform, they will bring together university students across the region and develop creative solutions to real issues being faced by the GTHA."  This is their second year running the competition and the topic this year was affordable housing.

For the competition they were asked to analyze the topic and provide policy proposal in the form of a PowerPoint presentation as well as an executive summary. On the day of the competition they were required to present in front of a two-person panel of government and industry experts. Marcia and her teammates were selected from thirteen other teams to go to the finals where we competed against a team from McMaster. They ultimately took second place.
