This poster is based on a group research project that the following Third Year BSW students did in Dr. Atsuko Matsuoka's AP/SOWK3070 class: Ami Leung, Shandelee Jones,Marina Kudrow, Nosipho Mabuza, and Ritika Trikha.

The poster illustrates the findings of our research project done for Dr. Atsuko Matsuoka's Foundations of Social Work Research class (AP/SOWK3070, Fall 2016). Through a survey distributed to newcomer parents attending workshops at a settlement services agency in York Region, our project examined how newcomer parents engaged in their children's education across traditional measures, as defined by school administrators and educators, and non-traditional measures identified by the literature as often overlooked by educational bodies.  We also examined how newcomer parents themselves defined parental engagement  As first and second generation Canadians, it was meaningful and important for us to contribute to research in this field.
