Job Description:

Vanier College Productions provides opportunities for students to work under the LEAP Work-Study program, receiving yearlong mentorship, guidance, and leadership training in a theatrical setting. Work-Study students support Vanier College Productions' performing arts experiential education activities, including working with alumni, staff, and students in fostering community through producing a season of shows, workshops, and events. 

 

Major Areas of Responsibility: 

  • Assisting the artistic staff in the organization, planning, and implementation of the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Developing and executing marketing strategies independently and through the management of a student-led marketing team. 
  • Assisting with the organization and management of Vanier College Productions pre-orientation, orientation and recruitment activities. 
  • Managing team of current Vanier College Productions students involved with orientation and pre-production activities for the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Managing the creation of a promotional videos showcasing Vanier College Productions. 
  • Developing content and maintaining the Vanier College Productions website. 
  • Designing, preparing/printing, and distributing posters and programmes for all shows in the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Creating, overseeing, and implanting a social media action plan for all activites in the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Developing and maintaining a ticketing strategy/system for Vanier College Productions. 
  • Managing the Vanier College Productions Box Office for all productions/events in the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Acting as the Front-of-House Manager for all productions/events in the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Overseeing beverage sales and related fundraising initiatives. 
  • Managing a volunteer team of Vanier College Productions students working to oversee the Box Office and Front-of-House throughout all productions/events in the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Assisting with production and marketing for all productions/events in the 2022-2023 season where needed. 
  • Attending and participating in regular meetings with artistic and production staff throughout the 2022-2023 season. 
  • Attend all training sessions, weekly staff and production meetings (Mondays 4:00-7:00 pm throughout the fall/winter terms), midterm and final personal and professional review as outlined in the Becoming YU program. 
  • Serving as a support for students involved in Vanier College Productions and providing assistance with conflict resolution when needed. 

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate York student. 
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record of demonstrated leadership, as well as a genuine interest in working in a collaborative team-based environment to foster community at York through theatre production and performance. 
  • An intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Office (Docs, Sheets, etc.) are strongly recommended. 

 

Skills Required: 

  • Previous skills and experience support ability to make a positive contribution to all tasks related to the smooth functioning of Vanier College Productions. 
  • Highly organized, energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about theatre and community building at York. 
  • Previous experience working in theatre, performing/visual arts, or a related field. 
  • Demonstrated confidence and belief in, and ownership over their work. 
  • Adaptable, flexible, and respectful with regard to their work and co-workers. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in prioritizing tasks with superior attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with competing deadlines. 
  • Ability to accurately complete tasks diligently and on time. 
  • Ability to think outside of the box. 
  • Previous success thriving in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds/cultures.

  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills, while presenting a professional image of themselves, the program and the University at all times. 
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, according to VCP’s production calendar. 
  • Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with students, volunteers and staff. 
  • Basic graphic design knowledge and/or familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite. 
  • Experience with audio/video editing software and/or photography/videography. 
  • Well versed in social media networking and community building strategies and tactics. 
  • Previous fundraising or event planning experience. 
  • Students who are a good fit for this position are approachable, knowledgeable and open to learning about themselves and others. They will show high levels of Emotional Intelligence combined with excellent adaptability and organizational skills.
