The Malcolm Streete Memorial Entrance Award for Academic Excellence will be awarded to an incoming undergraduate student entering the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies from a secondary school in Canada, who identifies as Black, and who has enrolled in at least 24 credits for the year. Recipient must be enrolled in a Liberal Arts program, with preference given to students in the Black Canadian Studies program. Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario, and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate involvement in the community. For cases in which two similarly qualified students are eligible for this award, the award will go to the student with the highest academic achievement. Malcolm Streete (BA, Political Science 97) enrolled at York U in 1987, at the age of 53, to fulfill his lifelong dream of obtaining a university education. His passion for supporting youth education and Black excellence made him an impactful leader in the Jane and Finch area and wider Toronto Community. Malcolm s investment in the community programs and support have made immense impacts on the success and well-being of black youth ripples of which we can still see today. This award was established by Malcom s friends and family to honour his memory and continue his legacy of supporting black youth.
