About the Discover India Program
Students in the program form a group of 10 to 12 members. The group selects a topic related to an aspect of Indian culture or society, and identifies a site for the project. Under the guidance of a FLAME faculty mentor, you visit the site to collect primary data – interviews with community members, scholars and practitioners; stories; secondary sources; and audio-visual material – and get a first-hand experience of the cultural aspects.
After the field trip, your group analyzes the data and writes an 80- to 100-page report under the guidance of a report mentor. At the end of the program, groups present their findings and learnings to an external jury, and present their project in an exhibition using various creative methods to compete for a trophy and other accolades. Individually, you will write assignments, tests and an essay reflecting on your own learnings.

Minimum GPA of 7.5 and the permission of the undergraduate program director to register.
FLAME University offers BA, BSc and BBA interdisciplinary undergraduate programs; 17 majors and 21 minors at the undergraduate level; and a two-year MBA and MBA (Communications Management) postgraduate program. The program is conducted in English.
You will earn nine York credits, which will be added directly to your transcript (along with your grades) and can count toward your York undergraduate degree. You can also take additional courses at FLAME in their various schools.
The program runs July through December.
The program cost is equivalent to York tuition for six credits. If you take additional courses, you will pay tuition at York accordingly. After airfare and accommodation, we recommend budgeting about $200 per month for living expenses in India.
The Semester-in-India Award is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in an honours program in LA&PS. It provides up to $2,000 per student to help cover airfare, field trips and accommodation.
Funding is also available through the York International Mobility Award (YIMA). Get details on the YIMA page.
