International Student Success Ambassador

Student Success Mentor Lead

Eligibility: You must be eligible for work-study or international work-study to work within the Faculty of LA&PS. Please review the eligibility requirements for domestic students and international students to verify your status.
Education: Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate York student.
Number of Positions Available: 1 Summer and 1 Fall/Winter term position.
Type of Position: Paid
Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour
Employment Term: Summer: May 4- August 28, 2026; Fall/Winter: September 7, 2026- April 24, 2027
Total Weekly Hours of Work: Summer term= up to 12 hours per week. Fall/Winter term = up to 12 hours per week.


Purpose:

Working closely with the International Student Success & Engagement Coordinator and Manager of Global & Community Engagement, to support the planning and facilitation of programming for our international students at LA&PS.


Duties:

  1. Provide peer support by identifying student needs and make informed referrals to financial, academic, career and health resources on campus.
  2. Promote awareness and assist students with obtaining information about available programs and services at LA&PS and York as a whole.
  3. Share experiences, guidance and information through mentorship conversations and responding to questions and concerns by email and/or in person.
  4. Facilitate group sessions to disseminate information via presentations and workshops.
  5. Act as an ambassador and role model by helping students navigate York University’s processes and procedures.
  6. Assist with planning and implementing program initiatives, activities and campus events.
  7. Develop website and social media content to creatively collaborate with students to share ideas, provide information and promote events.
  8. Collaborate with campus partners to develop and promote our mentorship program.
  9. Assist with collecting and documenting program data, evaluations and outcomes.
  10. Assist with drafting reports, conducting research and developing resources for international students.
  11. Assist with special projects and administrative duties.
  12. Attend and participate in team meetings.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with English as a Foreign Language learners or knowledge of international student needs.
  • Demonstrated skills in event planning, facilitation and management considered an asset.
  • Past experience with peer mentorship or student supports considered an asset.
