Number of Positions Available: 2 Summer Term positions; 2 Fall/Winter Term positions
Type of Position: Paid
Rate of Pay: $19.00 per hour
Employment Term: Summer: May 4- September 4, 2026; Fall/Winter: September 8, 2026- April 30, 2027
Total Weekly Hours of Work: Summer: up to 34 hours per week; Fall/Winter: up to 15 hours per week
Purpose:
The LA&PS Social Media and Marketing Assistant is responsible for creating student centric content to amplify the promotion of the LA&PS Colleges events, programs and initiatives.
Duties:
- Support the development and implementation of communications that promote LA&PS Colleges programs, services, and initiatives.
- Supporting the development of social media strategies.
- Plan, create, and publish engaging social media content for the LA&PS Colleges Instagram account (@yorkulapscolleges), including developing content ideas, filming and editing short-form videos, writing captions, and scheduling posts.
- Assist with content planning by maintaining a communications calendar and ensuring timely and consistent posting across platforms.
- Assisting with the creation of marketing and digital advertising materials.
- Coordinate with student writers and contributors for the LA&PS Voices Blog and The Quadrant student journal, including outreach, tracking submissions, and supporting the editing and publishing process.
- Collaborate with LA&PS staff and student contributors to develop content that reflects diverse student experiences and aligns with institutional messaging.
- Support outreach and promotional efforts by creating digital materials in alignment with LA&PS branding guidelines.
- Monitor communications channels (e.g., email, Microsoft Teams, social media) and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain and update website and blog content, ensuring accuracy, organization, and accessibility of materials.
- Track engagement metrics and support the evaluation of communications and content performance.
- Maintain organized records of content, submissions, and communications materials across shared platforms.
- Attend regular meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform additional duties as required
Skills:
- Experience planning, creating, and managing social media content, particularly Instagram, including filming, editing, caption writing, and scheduling posts.
- Experience coordinating written content for blogs, publications, or newsletters, including liaising with contributors and supporting the editing/publishing process.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain organized records and content archives.
- Experience with digital tools and platforms such as Canva, Microsoft Outlook 365, email, or website content management systems.
- Knowledge of York University services, resources, and student supports.
- Experience collaborating with campus partners or contributors.
- Demonstrated commitment to storytelling, student engagement, and amplifying diverse student voices.
- Demonstrated ability to work proactively, take initiative, and maintain engagement in both independent and team-based projects.
- Interest or experience in marketing, communications, or graphic design is considered an asset.
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate student at York University.
- In good academic standing.
- Demonstrated experience in communications, writing, marketing, or digital content creation.
- Able to actively engage in both on-camera appearances and behind-the-scenes content development.
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and a willingness to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and contributors effectively.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Approachable, reliable, and committed to supporting an inclusive and engaging student environment.
