The characters continue but with a new plot each week (Feuer, 551). In accordance to Grote characteristics of a comedy the events of the show change every episode. All of the characters continue to have different mishaps in Eric’s basement that are different each episode. In most episodes Eric tries to develop his relationship with Donna and Jackie continues to impress Kelso. Each episode is marked with a romantic chase and poor results. The relationships between the characters are the basis for the comedic plot. The same types of scenarios occur every episode.
