More than $3 million to support nearly 500 businesses and training for nearly 1,000
participants, including the Schulich Venture Academy at York University

TORONTO, March 7, 2024 – The Government of Canada is committed to supporting businesses and entrepreneurs as they bring innovative solutions and help to build a strong economic future for southern Ontario.

Today, the Honourable Ruby Sahota, Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), announced an investment of over $3 million for the Schulich Venture Academy housed at York University’s Schulich School of Business to expand its programming to support more businesses and entrepreneurs.   

The Schulich Venture Academy at York University delivers specialized training to entrepreneurs and start-ups working to build and scale their ventures. Through this project, Schulich Venture Academy will launch 10 cohorts with an enhanced curriculum, including new sector training in emerging clusters, such as artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and clean tech. It is expected to support nearly 500 businesses and nearly 1,000 individuals will benefit from this enhanced programming.

The Government of Canada is investing in businesses and entrepreneurs to ensure that they have access to the programming and resources they need to grow, thrive and create good jobs for Canadians.

Le gouvernement du Canada soutient les entreprises et les travailleurs dans le Sud de l’Ontario

Plus de trois (3) millions de dollars pour soutenir près de 500 entreprises et offrir de la formation à près de 1 000 participants

TORONTO, le 7 mars 2025 - Le gouvernement du Canada s’engage à soutenir les entreprises et les entrepreneurs, car ils proposent des solutions novatrices et contribuent à bâtir un avenir économique solide pour le Sud de l’Ontario.

Aujourd’hui, l’honorable Ruby Sahota, ministre des Institutions démocratiques et ministre responsable de l’Agence fédérale de développement économique pour le Sud de l’Ontario (FedDev Ontario), a visité la Schulich Venture Academy de la York University pour en apprendre davantage sur la formation spécialisée qu’elle offre aux entrepreneurs et aux entreprises en démarrage qui travaillent à bâtir et à développer leur entreprise.   

Pendant qu’elle s’y trouvait, la ministre Sahota a annoncé un investissement de plus de trois (3) millions de dollars pour permettre à la Schulich Venture Academy de la York University d’élargir ses programmes pour soutenir davantage d’entreprises et d’entrepreneurs. Dans le cadre de ce projet, la Schulich Venture Academy lancera 10 cohortes ayant un programme d’études amélioré, y compris une nouvelle formation axée sur les secteurs dans les grappes émergentes, notamment l’intelligence artificielle, les véhicules électriques et les technologies propres. Près de 500 entreprises et près de 1 000 personnes devraient bénéficier de ces programmes améliorés.

• Établie en 1986, la Schulich Venture Academy, située à Toronto, a soutenu plus de 500 entreprises et a offert plus de 4 000 programmes sur mesure aux participants. 
• Fondée en 1959, la York University possède un vaste réseau de campus, y compris les campus Keele, Markham et Glendon, qui est bilingue, se trouvant dans la région du Grand Toronto, ainsi qu’à Hyderabad, en Inde, et un éco-campus au Costa Rica. L’université compte plus de 375 000 anciens étudiants partout dans le monde.
