I want to thank the entire York community for their extraordinary efforts to work together towards the pursuit of peace and prosperity for people and the planet \u2013 both locally and globally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"415\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/242\/2022\/04\/StudentsSubway_window_400x4002-min-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/242\/2022\/04\/StudentsSubway_window_400x4002-min-2.png 415w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/242\/2022\/04\/StudentsSubway_window_400x4002-min-2-300x289.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/world-university-rankings\">The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings<\/a> considers factors such as research, stewardship, outreach and teaching to determine the rank for each institution. The UN has 17 global sustainable development goals for 2030, and York is well ranked among the top 100 universities across them. York\u2019s focus on sustainability resulted in several top rankings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In sustainable cities and communities, York ranks in the top 10 globally,<\/li><li>In peace and strong institutions, York also ranks in the top 10 globally,<\/li><li>In gender equality, York ranks No. 1 in Canada, and 21 globally.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Lisa Philipps, provost and vice-president academic, credited the hard work and dedication of students, faculty, staff and alumni for contributions that inspire the entire York community to help build a better future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe UN\u2019s 17 sustainable development goals represent fundamental values at York,\u201d Philipps said. \u201cThey align with the six priorities for action that we have set for ourselves within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/uap2020-25\/answering-the-call\/\">University Academic Plan<\/a> and reaffirm our longstanding values of social justice, equity and sustainability. Both organizations seek to break down barriers worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cec.info.yorku.ca\/\">TD Community Engagement Centre<\/a> strives for academic innovation through community building, education, and experiential learning for the Black Creek Community, one of the most diverse communities in Toronto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women and children from kindergarten to Grade 12 can access programs and services through the Carswell Foundation\u2019s ground-breaking partnership between the School of Arts, Media, Performance and Design and the Regent Park School of Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/gradstudies\/postdoctoral-fellows\/prospective-fellows\/provosts-postdoctoral-fellowships\/\">Provost\u2019s Postdoctoral Fellowships for Black and Indigenous Scholars<\/a> provides resources, mentorship and up to $70,000 a year for learners seeking to get a foothold in their career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lenton says York takes a collaborative approach to sustainability, bringing people, institutions, cities and countries together to engage as partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/242\/2022\/04\/markham.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-549\" width=\"400\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/242\/2022\/04\/markham.jpg 906w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/242\/2022\/04\/markham-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption><em>Rendering of the Markham Campus<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the GTA, York has been engaging with the City of Markham as it prepares to open its new <a href=\"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/2021\/10\/24\/markham-campus-building-starts-to-take-shape\/\">Markham Campus<\/a> where construction is underway, as well as with business and community leaders working to give diverse communities in the region a voice. The Keele Campus is being reimagined, meanwhile, and will include consultation with the communities it serves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University and the City of Vaughan have begun looking at how York can play a greater role within the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct, including a new <a href=\"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/2022\/02\/15\/york-university-and-city-of-vaughan-begin-land-use-talks-for-new-school-of-medicine\/\">School of Medicine<\/a>. The precinct is a collaboration between York, Vaughan, Mackenzie Health and ventureLAB and will create a centre of excellence for health, preventative medicine and community care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>York\u2019s partnerships also create positive change for international communities.
