Hourly/Daily Parking

Hourly/daily parking continues to be available at many on-street locations, surface lots and garages.  All hourly/daily parking is facilitated through your license plate, which is registered when payment is made.

Payments can be made at the pay stations located in the parking areas.  In addition, contactless payments are now available through HONK Mobile.  HONK Mobile enables new payment methods including Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal in addition to VISA and MasterCard.  HONK Mobile payments can be made using an iOS or Android mobile device by either:

  • Downloading the HONK Mobile app from your device’s app store
  • Tapping your phone at one of the HONK Tap signs located in each parking area

Please note:  Like at surface lots, hourly/daily parking in the garages will also now require payment upon arrival.  Payment in the garages for hourly/daily parking is made exclusively through HONK Mobile.

Sessional Permit Parking

Sessional parking permits will be available for purchase online only.

Access to Outer Reserved and Reserved Permit lots will require a permit; daily payment access to these lots is not being provided at this time.

Clients who held a Reserved or Garage permit in March 2020, can have their space held until August 2022.  Permits not renewed by August 31, 2022 will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

Employee Continuous Parking Permits (Payroll Deduction)

When the University moved to remote services in March 2020, all payroll deductions were cancelled.  Since previous continuous permits were last renewed in 2016, clients wishing to purchase a Continuous parking permit will need to submit a Continuous permit application. The Continuous permit application and the payroll deduction forms have been combined into one form to streamline the process.  Additional information about this process will be sent by email to all previous Continuous permit holders.

Clients who held a Continuous Reserved or Garage permit in March 2020, can have their space held until August 2022.  Permits not renewed by August 31, 2022 will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

While community members can choose from any of the available parking options based on their needs or preferences, the following demonstrates common scenarios and recommended options based on cost:

Parking on campus ONE time per week or less:

HOURLY/DAILY PARKING would be most cost effective.

Parking on campus TWO times per week or up to 10 times per month:

The new daily HONK MULTI-PACK would provide both flexibility and value.

Parking on campus THREE or more times per week:

We strive for consistency in how parking lots are classified and how rates are applied, but there can be variations for several reasons.  In 2019 the Board of Governors approved the reclassification of the Shoreham Drive and Rideau Road lots from Unreserved to Outer-Reserved, making them consistent with similar lots on the Keele campus. To help mitigate the impact of this change on Unreserved permit holders, the change was phased in over two years and completed effective May 2021.  Except for that change, monthly permit prices have not increased since May 2016 despite annual increases in operating costs.

At Glendon, prices for parking in the Upper Lots is consistent with Keele campus Reserved permit rates.  The Glendon Lower Lots have a much different geographic context and are priced accordingly.

Much consideration was given to parking plans, in order to provide community members with a range of options and flexibility at various price points, given the potential for a variety of different transitional work schedules, while considering operational and technical feasibility, lot capacity management, and the overall rate structure. Plans were also compared with other Ontario institutions, most of which returned to paid parking at their regular rates last year and without additional options such as the multi-day pack.
Community members have a range of choices between hourly/daily, multi-day pack, and permit options to suit different circumstances and preferences. Monthly/sessional parking permits have always been intended for those parking on campus three or more times per week, and they continue to provide savings of up to 40% compared to daily rates at three days per week. Prorating permits for partial days/weeks is not feasible. Depending on travel patterns, the new daily multi-pack option may also be a good choice, and it enables clients to park in premium locations at a discount of up to 50%. For some, daily parking may be the best choice. Parking Services staff are available to help clients plan their commutes and arrive at the best option. Please contact us.

The capacity of the Pond Road lot was reduced by approximately 50% due to the expansion of the Quad residence development. However, parking remains available on a first come, first served basis. Parking may also be available in the adjacent Haynes Road lot at the same Outer-Reserved rate. Clients are encouraged to contact Parking Services to discuss their available options.

The new transitional Multi-Pack option is available through the HONK system and requires the use of the HONK mobile app.  Individuals who do not have a compatible smartphone, can continue to purchase daily parking from the pay stations located in the hourly/daily parking areas.
