President's Staff Recognition Awards

Every year, York University honours and celebrates the achievements of our dedicated staff. "Every year I look forward to the President's Staff Recognition Awards," says York President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri. "These awards provide a way to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our staff. Those whose contributions have helped to make York one of Canada's leading universities."

 

 

Ronald Kent Medal

This award was established in 1979 by President Emeritus H. Ian Macdonald. The award namesake, Ronald Kent, had a unique personal commitment to the University showcased through years of dedicated service. His sincerity and enthusiasm were infectious, and easily spread across other departments. He was considered a true ambassador for York University. A dedicated member of President's Macdonald's staff, Ronald Kent passed away suddenly on campus in the late 1970's.

The award consists of a medal designed by Birks and a framed paper sculpture engraved with the winner's name. The winner's name will also be engraved on an annual plaque, displayed in the winner's home department for one year.

  • Promote and strengthen collegiality at York?
  • Consistently go above and beyond what is required of them in their daily job?
  • Promote the spirit and goals of York?

If yes, then the Ronald Kent Medal is the award you're looking for!


Eligibility

    Is your nominee:

  • A full time employee at York, who has been employed for five continuous years?
  • A non-teaching staff member?
  • Not a member of the Confidential, Professional and Managerial employee group?

If yes, then the person you've got in mind is eligible for nomination!


Nomination Guidelines

The Chief Nominator is responsible for putting together a nomination file that consists of...

  • A nomination letter
  • A minimum of 2 supporting nominators must be from outside of the nominee's home department
  • The nominee's C.V. or work history at York University
  • A minimum of 2 supporting letters with a maximum of 5 supporting letters in total

Excellence is everywhere at York! We urge you to consider nominating someone from outside your home department.


Selection Committee

The Ronald Kent Medal Selection Committee consists of six members, and is chaired by President Emeritus H. Ian Macdonald. Committee members are appointed by the President, and serve for three years.

Members of the Selection Committee many not initiate nominations or write a supporting letter for the Ronald Kent Medal. If a member of the Selection Committee is nominated for the award, they shall resign from the committee.

Formerly the President’s CPM Award, the President’s Leadership Award has been renamed to better recognize the attributes and values of the award winners.   The President’s Leadership Award recognizes those who are committed to excellence in their service to York.  Individuals nominated for this award contribute beyond their job descriptions, and perform at a level that inspires professionalism across the University community at large.

The award consists of a $500 purse and a framed paper sculpture engraved with the winner’s name.  The winner’s name will also be engraved on an annual plaque, displayed in the winner’s home department for one year.


Criteria

    Does your nominee:

  • Regularly and consistently perform at a level that exceeds the requirements of their position?
  • Adhere to a standard of professionalism that serves as a model for others?
  • Demonstrate creativity and initiative when improving procedures, practices, productivity?
  • Take on leadership roles in promoting collaborative effort and a sense of collegiality across the University?
  • Serve York in a voluntary capacity? (This can include internal/external community based participation such as committee work or service on volunteer boards.)

If yes, then the President’s Leadership Award is the award you’re looking for!
