The theme for International Women\u2019s Day 2022, #BreakTheBias, serves to acknowledge the struggles, barriers and work yet to be done in creating a more resilient, equitable and sustainable future for us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to advance personally and professionally. But acknowledging that bias exists is not enough \u2013 we must take action. York is working to break the six common types of biases at work: likeability bias, attribution bias, performance bias, affinity bias, maternal bias and intersectionality bias. Additionally, York\u2019s&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/uap2020-25\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>2020\u20132025 Academic Plan: Building a Better Future<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;<\/em>calls on the entire community to take meaningful action towards advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals \u2013 including SDG 5: Gender Equality \u2013 to create more equitable access to education that ensures no talent is left behind, and to advance equity in our research, teaching and learning.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want to wish all of York\u2019s students, staff, faculty, course instructors and alumni a happy International Women\u2019s Day, and thank you all for your support and contributions as we move towards an inclusive, diverse and equitable world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, we can all&nbsp;<strong>break the bias<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you.
