Danille Elize Arendse obtained her PhD in Psychology from the University of Pretoria and holds an MA in Research Psychology and BA Honours in Psychology from the University of the Western Cape. She became a uniformed member of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) in 2011, where she worked as a Research Psychologist at the Military Psychological Institute (MPI). Now a Major, Dr Arendse has previously taken on the role of Research Psychology Intern Supervisor and Coordinator at MPI. In 2022, Dr Arendse received the Diverse Black Africa Research and Travel Grants from Michigan State University, and in 2023, she was awarded the prestigious NIHSS/SU postdoctoral fellowship from the Centre for the Study of the Afterlife of Violence and the Reparative Quest (AVReQ) at Stellenbosch University. Additionally, she serves as a Research Associate in the Department of Psychology and a Mentor at the University of Pretoria. She is also an Accredited Conflict Dynamics Mediator. Dr Arendse is actively involved with the NYI Global Institute of Cultural, Cognitive and Linguistic Studies, affiliated with Stony Brook University, where she teaches and forms part of the programming team for the annual Critical Cultural courses for the Winter and Summer schools. She currently serves as the Marketing and Communications Convenor for the Humanities and Social Sciences Alumni Association (HSSAA) Executive Committee. Dr Arendse currently practices as a Research Psychologist and Research Psychology Intern Mentor at MPI. She has presented and published papers both locally and internationally.
