Sara Gallagher is a scholar of Black American literature and history, specializing in Black life in the Midwest and Western United States. She is the author of Black Wests, a study of Black settlement, cultural production, and regional identity in the American West. Her current research project, Unsettling the Heartland, examines Black migration, homesteading, and cultural formation in the U.S. Midwest, with attention to spatial history, diasporic geography, and transnational connections that include Black experiences and scholarship in Canada.
She is a professor at Durham College in Ontario, and her work bridges literary studies, cultural history, and Black diasporic scholarship across North American contexts.
