{"id":32026,"date":"2011-03-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/researchdev\/2011\/03\/28\/sshrc-funded-study-military-kids-under-stress-isolated-depressed-2\/"},"modified":"2011-03-28T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T08:00:00","slug":"sshrc-funded-study-military-kids-under-stress-isolated-depressed-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/research\/2011\/03\/28\/sshrc-funded-study-military-kids-under-stress-isolated-depressed-2\/","title":{"rendered":"SSHRC-funded study: Military kids under stress, isolated, depressed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Teens in military families are often burdened by additional emotional  stress when a parent is deployed to Afghanistan, according to a new  Canadian study, wrote <a title=\"CBC coverage of military family stress during deployment\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/new-brunswick\/story\/2011\/03\/24\/nb-military-family-stress-1127.html\">CBCNews.ca March 25<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Researchers from the University of New Brunswick, the University of  Alberta, Ryerson University, and York University released the findings  of their groundbreaking research on Thursday that examined students at  Oromocto High School near Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, who recently  had a parent serving in the Canadian mission in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers reported the teens worried their parents would not return home or would come back \"different.\"<\/p>\n<p>The study found that stress caused concerns at home. The young people  felt a sense of responsibility for the emotional stability of their  other parent and for any younger siblings at home.
