That local tradition of re-examining legal attitudes to gender issues will carry on as York University Professor <a title=\"Nancy Nicol research profile York University\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/finearts\/faculty\/profs\/nicol.htm\">Nancy Nicol<\/a> [Faculty of Fine Arts] has received $1 million in funding to study the criminalization of sexual orientation and gender issues across the globe, wrote the weekly online news magazine <a title=\"Yonge Street coverage of Nancy Nicol's SSHRC project on gender rights\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yongestreetmedia.ca\/innovationnews\/yorkuniversity0406.aspx\"><em>Yonge Street<\/em> April 6<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The funding, to be delivered over five years, comes courtesy of the federal government's <a title=\"SSHRC website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/\">Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada<\/a>.
