{"id":33665,"date":"2018-03-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/researchdev\/2018\/03\/19\/qs-rankings-put-york-university-in-the-top-10-in-15-subject-areas-2\/"},"modified":"2018-03-19T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T08:00:00","slug":"qs-rankings-put-york-university-in-the-top-10-in-15-subject-areas-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/research\/2018\/03\/19\/qs-rankings-put-york-university-in-the-top-10-in-15-subject-areas-2\/","title":{"rendered":"QS rankings put York University in the top 10 in 15 subject areas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>York University ranks among Canada\u2019s top universities in the arts and humanities, law and legal studies, social sciences, and business management according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topuniversities.com\/\">2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject<\/a> report released Feb. 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese rankings are a reflection of York\u2019s success in providing students access to a high-quality, research-intensive learning environment, with academic programming that is enriched by experiential learning opportunities, innovative scholars and researchers who are making breakthroughs in their chosen fields, and a shared commitment to having a positive impact on the wellbeing of society,\u201d said York University President &amp; Vice-Chancellor Rhonda Lenton. \u201cAt the same time, we continue to reach higher, to ensure the excellence of our programming across disciplines and to support the quality and influence of the work of our scholars and researchers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the QS World University Rankings category of Social Sciences and Management, York University ranks in the top five universities in Canada in the subject areas of communication and media studies (#3), development studies (#3), anthropology (#4), law and legal studies (#4), politics (#5) and business management studies (#5). The University is in the top 10 in Canada for accounting and finance (#6), sociology (#6) and economics (#9).<\/p>\n<p>In the QS Rankings category of Arts and Humanities, York University\u2019s programs in the subject areas of history (#4), and English and literature studies (#5), are in the top five. Philosophy (#7) and modern languages (#9) are in the top 10 in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s programs in subject area geography (#4) and mathematics (#10) appeared in the top 10 in the 2018 QS World University Rankings category of Natural Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject report considers 959 universities of the world\u2019s universities using a method that ranks each institution according to 48 subjects using four sources (the weight given to each source varies by subject): Academic reputation through QS\u2019s global surveys of academics; employer reputation through a global survey of employers; research impact based on research citations per paper; and citation productivity and influence measured through an \u00a0h-index.<\/p>\n<p>QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
