YCAR and the Korean Office for Research and Education (KORE) warmly welcome Yoon Jin Jung as the new KORE Coordinator. Yoon Jung supports KORE thanks to funding as part of the initiative’s five-year grant from the Academy of Korean Studies.
Yoon Jin is a media artist, curator and cultural researcher. She conducts research and practice through diverse personal work, including installation, photography, video and drawing, alongside community-based work, merging artistic practice with scholarly inquiry to illuminate cross-cultural relationships.
Jung's core research interest focuses on examining the mutually experienced changes of individuals or diverse objective groups. Jung’s body of work includes artistic experiments that critique human perceptual bias and various research-based projects. These projects serve as performative inquiries, raising new questions and discourses regarding difficulty and disability, diasporic experience and historical or environmental disasters as manifested by specific conditions and given environments. This inquiry is actualized through various methods, including artistic and curatorial practice, critical writing, and cultural project management.
Jung dedicates expertise to managing Korea-Canada international exchange projects, supported by active collaborative participation in diverse cultural initiatives: the 2018 Seoul Museum of Art Mediacity Biennale, the 2019 Seoul Culture Oil Tank Global Network Program, a 2021 column contribution to Quarterly Baekjo (Nojak Literature House), and the 2023 exhibition Reimagining Places: Land, Store, Home at the Korean Cultural Centre in Ottawa. Jung also served as an Instructor and Supervisor for on-site education and production for the international partnership, Envisioning Global LGBT Human Rights, collaborating with institutions in Africa and the Caribbean.
Jung holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA Hons.) in Fine Arts from York University and completed advanced coursework in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program at the same institution's Department of Visual Arts.
