Surfacing: Chinese Caribbean Intellectual Thought and Creative Practice

Surfacing: Chinese Caribbean Intellectual Thought and Creative Practice is an international symposium bringing together scholars, artists, creative writers, and curators working at the intersection of China and the Caribbean.
The symposium comprises a keynote lecture by Trinidadian historian Walton Look Lai in conversation with Kathleen López. It also features inter-generational panels addressing Chinese Caribbean history, literature, visual culture and futures. Presenters are based in the Greater Caribbean (from Central America to Suriname), China and their diasporas.

This event is organized by the Chinese Caribbean Studies Network, a group of scholars and creatives based in Canada, US, UK and the Caribbean. It is hosted by OCAD University in collaboration with Toronto Metropolitan University, with support from Emory University, Bentley University, University of Toronto, University of Virginia and the York Centre for Asian Research.
