With a passion for sport developed at a very young age, Jeff Thompson has been able gain a perspective of sport from a number of vantage points. As an athlete, Thompson competed in two sports internationally for Canada, Alpine Skiing and Triathlon. His experiences with Alpine Canada then morphed to coaching, where he was instrumental in the development of the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation competency based certification program.His career then turned to sport administration, first with skiing and then to the sport of golf. As a ski administrator, he held senior positions both at the provincial level and national level serving as Head Coach/Athletic Director at the National Ski Academy (1990 - 1997) before moving to the position of Executive Director of Alpine Ontario (1997-2002). In 2002, his experiences led him to the Canadian golf industry where he held the position of Executive Director of the former Canadian Ladies Golf Association (2002-2004).Thompson played an instrumental role in the CLGA amalgamation in 2004 with the Royal Canadian Golf Association which would eventually land the RCGA the designation by Sport Canada as the National Sport Organization for golf in Canada. In his current position with the RCGA as Chief Sport Development Officer (2004-present) he oversees the development of the sport of golf from both a participation standpoint and the organizations grow the game strategies focused on both grassroots and high performance objectives. Grassroots programming include CN Future Links, a program that has attracted more the 750,000 Canadian youth to the sport of golf as well as the National Golf in Schools program, which is focused at 10,000 elementary schools in Canada and over 3.2 million children. His responsibilities with respect to high performance surround the Canadian National Team program-Team Canada-in preparing the best up and coming players in Canada to compete on the LPGA and PGA Tour. To date, the National Team program has shown incredible success and at one point in 2009 saw Canada boast the #1 and #2 ranked amateur players in the world. As the sport continues to evolve in Canada, Thompson looks forward to exciting opportunities that will result from the recent inclusion of golf in the 2016 as a fully recognized Olympic sport. Thompson and his wife Linda reside happily in Oakville, Ont. with their three children (Samantha, Breydon and Kylie).
