SUMMARY:Seminar talk on Nanoscale Engineering of Hybrid Polymeric Nanocomposites on surfaces, interfaces and on Thin Films
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Abdiaziz A. Farah.\nAbstract: An overview of my research expertise in device integration and materials manufacturing will be given in this talk. There will be three segments:\n• The first segment will describe a novel surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique for molecular sensing. Specifically, customized surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrates that are capable of producing significant and consistent improvements will be thoroughly discussed for the purpose of benchmarking. A real-time plasmon-thin film transistor (TFT) integrated device for very low concentration threshold and highly sensitive for glucose biomarker detection will be demonstrated.\n• The second segment will discuss the first example of a thermoplastic polymeric blend that works better in touch sensor that come into direct contact with human skin than conventional triboelectric materials. Additionally, it will be demonstrated how it was possible to optimize the self-generating capabilities of the touch sensor by adjusting the surface triboelectricity by blend engineering and chemical alteration of the polymer matrix.\n• The final component of the talk will examine the research strategy/roadmap and related technical challenges for producing carbon fiber with an intermediate modulus and high strength for many possible application domains.\n\n
