The 3rd Commonwealth Chemistry Congress in South Africa from May 11-14, 2025

The 3rd Commonwealth Chemistry Congress took place in Stellenbosch, South Africa from May 11-14, 2025. A strong representation from York’s environmental and atmospheric chemistry faculty addressed the central themes of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as recognized by their international reputations and research expertise. Prof. Cora Young represented Canada on the Scientific Organizing Committee, while Prof. Trevor VandenBoer shared his group’s expertise as a keynote speaker in agricultural soil emissions towards the Climate Change (SDG 13) and Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6) goals. York University alumni in atmospheric chemistry were also present. Prof. Abdus Salam, a plenary speaker on air quality in Bangladesh, and now the Dean of Science at Dhaka University was a prior postdoctoral researcher in the Centre for Atmospheric Chemistry.
