Objective

To support fundamental, early translational research on all types of cancer.

To support Canadian researchers in their pursuit to advance scientific knowledge in the following five (5) areas:

  • Fundamental/basic cancer research;
  • Prevention (some grants will be co-funded with CIHR);
  • Early translational cancer research, including preclinical research, cellular or animal models, biomarkers for diagnostics and prognosis, and imaging and treatment;
  • Research studying the environmental causes of cancer including viruses, pollutants, work environment, lifestyle and diet; and
  • In collaboration with CIHR, ‘Cancer Survivorship Research’. Research to improve health outcomes for cancer survivors of all age groups, including studies to reduce the risk of recurrence and to prevent or lessen adverse side effects and comorbidities from cancer therapies.

Eligibility
  • A Principal Investigator may only submit ONE Application per application cycle and cannot serve as a Principal Investigator OR Co-Principal Investigator on more than ONE Application per cycle.
  • A Co-Investigator (also known as Collaborator) CAN serve as Co-Investigator on more than one Application.
  • A Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator can serve as a Collaborator on other applications.

How to Apply

York University researchers are reminded that all applications for external research funding, including Letters of Intent, must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Research Services before they are submitted to the granting agency.  For internal approval, the application must be accompanied by a completed ORS Checklist, which requires the Dean’s signature.  Please send the complete application, with the finalized budget and a completed ORS checklist to sciapps@yorku.ca, five days prior to agency deadline.
