I became a student ambassador because...From first-hand experience, I know how overwhelming and difficult it is to choose a university program as a high school student. I became a student ambassador because...When the pandemic first began, I transferred schools. This was difficult as I had never been to campus prior to my admission and was not sure of what resources there were to make my integration into this community easier. Throughout the years, I found many resources and gained many opportunities although it was difficult at first as an international and transfer student. I would like to share my experience and the knowledge that I have obtained through my difficulties with other students in a similar situation or the same interest in my degree.

I chose York Science because...it is inclusive and welcoming environment. Furthermore, the wide variety of research opportunities available for undergraduate students was very favourable. Research is a valuable and rewarding experience that can give one many crucial lab related skills that they otherwise wouldn't have learned through the labs conducted in science courses. I had also won the YSSA award which was an opportunity that I couldn't turn down.

I became a student ambassador because... My goal was to become a student ambassador because I demonstrated an immense interest in wanting to take on the leadership role of representing York Science. I believe the professors here at York in the faculty of science take their time explaining the concepts, covering material and making sure each student understands the concepts so that they can excel in their courses. Considering science courses aren't the easiest to grasp sometimes, this is something I genuinely appreciate and love about York Science.

I chose York Science because... of its diverse options outside of my program. First off, the university has hundreds of clubs that run every year which range from educational clubs to sports clubs. York also holds intramurals for students who enjoy playing sports and clubs that help students enhance their academic careers. In addition, the campus has a wide array of student services to help students through tough times and to help reduce prices for limited services/activities. Most importantly, York has a student-governed system which means that students have a say in York’s future. All in all, I want prospective students to know that York University is very open, diverse and has many opportunities.

I chose York Science because... York sciences allows students to learn to apply methods of scientific inquiry to study living matter, health, medicine and illness. Concepts taught in several courses helps students to understand and analyze the behaviour of the human body and those of other organisms that co-exist with us. In addition, York Science gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in several research labs that cover a variety of complex scientific challenges. Students can assist professors with medical and other research. This experience allows students to gain leadership skills and enhances their resume for when they plan to apply to future jobs/ any professional school applications.

In turn, I have also been lucky enough to have been guided by previous students, so I am more than happy to reciprocate the help that I was given to incoming students.

I become a Student Ambassador because... I genuinely want to help and guide students and parents that are new to York and want to see what our university has to offer. I never had a form of mentor for these kind of stuff and no one guided me. Besides that, I believe that I have the enough confidence and information to be an SSA because of my previous and current job at the observatory. Also, to be honest, there aren't really a lot of students or SSAs that are studying physics, let alone astronomy; so being able to be a student in this field and help out other students, it would be amazing and beneficial for everyone.

I chose York Science because... of the unique opportunities and continuous support offered by the university. The Neuroscience program is a distinctive degree pathway and is different from other related programs, with professors and researchers at the top of their field and willing to share their knowledge. York Science is a one-of-a-kind experience that combines enriching academics and many opportunities to extend learning outside of the classroom into research and extracurriculars. York Science genuinely cares for the wellbeing and success of its students and encompasses the university's morals as a whole, which have been reflected in all of my experiences with Science faculty, staff, and older students. Being a part of the science community at York has been rewarding, educational, and fulfilling.

I become a Student Ambassador because... I want to highlight the gems of York U Science that I have made my experience at York so enjoyable. For instance, York’s faculty and staff have put countless hours into developing a pioneering academic transition program for high school students, with summer courses to brush up on old knowledge and crash-courses to university learning built in to first-year classes. I did not participate in this program as a transitioning student, but I got to see its effects firsthand when I helped design interventions for it in a research placement. Bethune college also offers extensive free academic supports in the form of Peer Assisted Study Sessions, Tutoring, and Mentoring. I want more people to know about the ways York U Science can enrich their lives and I hope no student misses an opportunity because they didn’t know what York U has to offer.

I chose York Science because... the attention to the individual needs of students set York Science apart as an enticing avenue for my post-secondary studies. York Science offers a range of services, such as peer tutoring, PASS, Bethune seminars and more. These services support incoming students with academics, acquaint them with the ins and outs of university life, stimulate their professional development, and help build a sense of community. York Science also offers excellent entrance scholarships to ease financial stress and start students off strong. One such scholarship was the YSSA, which allowed me to get research experience and make faculty connections early on in my first year.
