What is Memory?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Memory refers to the ability to encode, store and retrieve information. Focusing intentionally on new material, and creating meaningful connections between new ideas, information, and existing knowledge really improves our learning and memory. It's also important to practice retrieving what we've learned, through strategies like self-testing, so we can access the information we need when we need to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Forgetting Curve<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every time you review the information you learned, the forgetting curve is refreshed and gets less steep. Shorter, more frequent study sessions are more effective than one or two long, last-minute cramming sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sample Ongoing Review Schedule\u200b<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • 1st\u00a0 Review<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Review your notes with the same day (or within 24hrs)\u00a0and reduce notes to key words or a summary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 2nd\u00a0 Review<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0At the end of the week, look over everything you learned that\u00a0week and connect that information with the material from the previous week\u200b.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 3rd\u00a0 Review<\/strong>\u00a0-\u00a02-3 weeks later, review and connect several\u00a0weeks\u2019 worth of material together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Exam Review\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013\u00a0Beginning at least 7-10 days prior\u00a0to the exam, conduct daily review of sections of the material,\u00a0and conduct an overall review during the last few days\u200b.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
